From the Stake Presidency,
Brothers and Sisters of the Lake Mary Stake,
Some of my earliest memories of reading the Book of Mormon center on the family of Lehi and Sariah. I remember reading about Nephi, who was diligent and obedient to his father, and about Laman and Lemuel, who often murmured and disobeyed. Even when they did follow, they were quick to complain. It seemed clear to me that Nephi and his followers were blessed as they kept the commandments of God—and just as clear that Laman and Lemuel faced the consequences of their disobedience.
Woven throughout this family’s story is one of the most repeated promises in all of scripture—the “prosperity promise.” It is first introduced in 1 Nephi 2:20:
“And inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall prosper, and shall be led to a land of promise.”
This covenant theme runs deeply through the Book of Mormon, appearing more than twenty times in its pages. I have a firm testimony that this promise is true. At the same time, I understand that keeping the commandments does not mean we will be spared from trials. Rather, it ensures that we will have the Spirit with us and be prepared to meet life’s challenges with faith and strength.
When life becomes complex and our choices seem difficult, may we remember this simple yet powerful promise from the Lord: when we keep His commandments, He will bless and prosper us.

As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we believe that keeping the commandments is really about love. Love for God and love for others. Jesus taught, “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15). The commandments aren’t about earning perfection or proving our worth. They’re about showing our love, gratitude, and trust in Him who loves us perfectly.
President Russell M. Nelson once said, “When we choose to repent, we choose to change! We allow the Savior to transform us into the best version of ourselves.” The commandments help guide that change. They’re not meant to restrict us, but to gently lead us toward joy, a kind of joy that our Heavenly Father wants so deeply for each of us to feel.
Of course, none of us keeps the commandments perfectly. We all fall short. But that’s okay. That’s why we have a Savior. President Dallin H. Oaks reminded us, “After all our obedience and good works, we cannot be saved from the effect of our sins without the grace extended by the Atonement of Jesus Christ.”As we keep trying with hope, humility, and a willing heart, we can trust that Christ’s grace fills in the gaps. He makes us whole, even when we fall short.
In our daily lives, keeping the commandments might simply look like being honest, kind, prayerful, forgiving, and faithful. It’s choosing to follow our Savior, even when it’s not easy, and trusting that He walks beside us every step of the way. As we do, we come to feel His love more deeply and see His hand guiding every aspect of our lives.

General Conference Message
The Book of Mormon teaches a timeless truth: “Inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall prosper” (1 Nephi 2:20). Prosperity in the Lord’s sense is not about ease or abundance—it’s about strength, guidance, and peace through His Spirit.
As priesthood holders, we are invited to live and lead with this covenant promise at the center of our lives. Nephi’s diligence and faith blessed generations. Laman and Lemuel’s murmuring brought spiritual decline. Both faced challenges, yet only one group walked with the Lord’s sustaining power.
President Nelson reminded us that spiritual momentum comes as we “do the spiritual work to seek miracles.” Obedience to commandments creates that momentum. In our homes, quorums, and communities, we strengthen others when we act decisively in faith.
When we keep covenants, attend the temple, and minister with charity, the Lord magnifies our influence and renews our courage.
This month, strengthen your spiritual momentum by keeping one covenant with renewed intent. Lead your home and quorum in faith, trusting that obedience brings the Lord’s prospering power.
General Conference Message
Nephi was young when he chose to obey his father’s counsel. His brothers doubted, but Nephi said with courage, “I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded” (1 Nephi 3:7).
Obedience brings power. It may not always bring popularity or ease, but it always brings peace. The Lord’s promise to prosper those who keep His commandments means He will give us strength to do what is right, even when it’s hard.
President Nelson taught that “every choice you make has eternal consequences.” The strength to choose right comes through prayer, scripture study, and listening to the Spirit.
Like Nephi, you can stand firm. The Lord will prepare a way for you to live cleanly and serve faithfully.
Choose one standard from For the Strength of Youth to live more fully this month. Write down how obedience helps you feel the Spirit. You’ll see the Lord’s hand guiding your path.
General Conference Message
Nephi trusted God completely. His courage teaches us that peace and prosperity come when we choose obedience over fear.
Sister Bonnie H. Cordon shared that when we “stand as witnesses of Christ at all times and in all things,” our light grows brighter. The Savior helps us prosper in peace and purpose when we show faith in Him.
Every young woman can draw closer to the Savior by keeping commandments and remembering covenants. When life feels confusing, turn to the scriptures, your patriarchal blessing, and the temple for direction. As you do, the Lord will help you see your divine worth and eternal potential.
Sister Cordon reminded us, “Your testimony will grow stronger each time you share it.” Prosperity in the Lord’s eyes means becoming spiritually confident—knowing who you are and whose you are.
The Savior’s Atonement transforms every small act of obedience into eternal progress. Your quiet faith and your words of testimony can lift those around you.
Pray each day this month to know one small way to follow Jesus Christ more closely—then share a brief testimony of Him with a friend, classmate, or family member. As you act, you’ll feel the promise of 1 Nephi 2:20: the Lord will prosper you with peace and purpose.

President Nelson called the Book of Mormon “the keystone of our religion and the most correct book on earth.” Within its pages the prosperity promise resounds: obedience brings strength, faith, and revelation. For seminary students, that promise is alive every morning you open its pages.
Nephi’s family discovered that keeping commandments led them safely to their promised land. You can experience the same by studying daily and applying what you learn. The scriptures fill you with spiritual power to face questions and temptations with confidence.
President Nelson asked, “How precious is the Book of Mormon to you?” If we truly treasure it, we will read it, ponder it, and share it. The Spirit will testify that Jesus Christ lives and that prosperity in His sense means spiritual strength, not worldly success.
Commit to read from the Book of Mormon every day this month. Write one sentence in your journal about how it changes your thoughts or choices. As you do, you will feel the Lord prosper you with peace and light.
General Conference Message
Children can learn early that obeying Heavenly Father brings happiness. President Monson taught, “When we keep the commandments, our lives will be happier and more fulfilling.” Nephi was blessed because he chose to do what God asked. His brothers complained and struggled, but Nephi’s obedience brought peace.
Keeping the commandments means praying, being kind, telling the truth, and helping others. When children do these things, they invite the Holy Ghost to be with them. That feeling of warmth and happiness is Heavenly Father’s way of helping them prosper.
Just as Nephi was led to a land of promise, children who follow Jesus Christ will be led to places of safety and joy. Obedience is the bridge to blessings.
Sing “Keep the Commandments.” Then draw a picture of something good that happens when you obey Heavenly Father. Display it where you can see it and remember that obedience always brings happiness.
General Conference Message
Life in young adulthood often feels like Lehi’s wilderness—full of choices and change. Yet the prosperity promise holds true: if we keep God’s commandments, He will lead us to promised blessings. President Nelson urged, “Choose to let God prevail in your lives.”
When you align your will with His, uncertainty becomes opportunity. Prosperity looks like revelation in decisions, resilience in trials, and confidence in divine timing. Like Nephi, you may not know the route, but you can trust the Guide.
Obedience invites clarity. Daily prayer, temple attendance, and service tune your heart to the Spirit’s whisper. The Lord prospers covenant keepers with strength equal to their tasks.
Identify one decision you’re facing. In sincere prayer, yield that choice to the Lord. As you act in faith, notice how peace replaces pressure and how letting God prevail brings prosperity of the soul.

Elder Eddy taught, “The word of God has a virtuous, life-changing power.” Teachers who help others discover that power share in the Lord’s prosperity promise. Nephi’s people prospered when they heeded prophetic words; our classes prosper when they feast upon scripture together.
Doctrine and Covenants 84:85 reminds teachers to “treasure up in your minds continually the words of life.” Preparation and prayer invite the Spirit to speak through you. The aim of Sunday School is not to cover material but to help hearts feel conversion.
Prosperity in teaching means unity, revelation, and strengthened faith. When class members leave uplifted and motivated to live the gospel, the Lord has prospered your efforts.
Before your next lesson, study the assigned scriptures prayerfully. Ask Heavenly Father for one inspired question that will help your class feel the virtue of the word. Watch how the Spirit magnifies your teaching.
General Conference Message
The temple is the ultimate land of promise. President Nelson declared, “Everything we believe and every promise God has made to His covenant people comes to fruition in the temple.” There, obedience and sacrifice open heaven’s prosperity—the peace and power of eternal covenants.
Nephi’s people built a temple patterned after Solomon’s because they desired the Lord’s presence. Likewise, as we attend the temple and perform family ordinances, we build spiritual foundations that withstand every storm. Prosperity is measured in holiness, not wealth; in eternal connection, not convenience.
Each family name submitted, each ordinance performed, strengthens both sides of the veil. The Spirit of Elijah turns hearts and fills homes with unity and joy.
Schedule a temple visit or begin preparing a family name for proxy work. Record how you feel afterward. You will sense the Lord prospering your home with peace and purpose.
General Conference Message
Elder Stevenson taught, “Sharing the gospel can be natural and normal when we simply love, share, and invite.” Missionary work is how the prosperity promise spreads—it blesses both giver and receiver.
When Nephi’s family reached their promised land, they rejoiced in the goodness of God and taught their children to remember His hand. We prosper when we do the same—when gratitude moves us to testify. Love motivates; sharing blesses; inviting brings joy.
The Savior declared, “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15). One of those commandments is to share His gospel. As we do, our faith deepens and our happiness increases.
Pray each morning this week for one person to love, one truth to share, or one invitation to extend. Follow every prompting. Your simple effort will help gather Israel and bring the prosperity of the gospel to another soul.
General Conference Message
Brothers and Sisters, the “prosperity promise” shared by the Stake Presidency—that obedience brings strength, peace, and preparation for life’s challenges—is fulfilled not only individually but collectively as we gather and serve together. Our stake activities and community outreach are sacred opportunities to build Zion in our homes and neighborhoods. They strengthen our spiritual foundations, providing refuge from the storms of life. When daily discipleship through prayer, scripture study, and Come, Follow Me becomes difficult amid life’s complexities, joining in stake worship and service renews faith and unity.
Elder Quentin L. Cook taught that Zion is created when we are “of one heart and one mind and dwell in righteousness.” In a divided world, the Saints can be a unifying force that uplifts communities. The Lake Mary Stake seeks to nurture this spirit through purposeful connection and service. Community outreach through JustServe, interfaith partnerships, and disaster-relief projects bless both giver and receiver. Multi-stake activities and devotionals strengthen friendships and faith among youth, single adults, and families. Gospel-learning programs such as EnglishConnect, Self-Reliance courses, and BYU–Pathway Worldwide open doors for spiritual and temporal growth, while sacred observances like Easter and Palm Sunday devotionals focus our worship on the Savior.
These experiences answer our divine need to belong, to serve, and to grow together in Christ. As we participate, we become a covenant people whose hearts are knit together in unity and love.
Choose one upcoming stake or community opportunity this month and invite a friend or neighbor to join you. In unity and service, the Lord will prosper the people of the Lake Mary Stake.
Donation boxes in all chapel foyers until December 3rd
A temple recommend is a symbol of your worthiness and readiness to enter the house of the Lord. If your recommend is expired or soon to expire, please schedule an interview with a member of the bishopric and then the stake presidency. Let us prepare to worship and serve in the temple regularly.
Once you have finished your interview with a member of your bishopric, a member of the stake will reach out to you to schedule an interview with a member of the Stake Presidency.
